Clinical
I have experience in the assessment and management of a broad range of paediatric communication disorders. I work directly with children and indirectly with the parents/carers and professionals who support them. Multi-disciplinary liaison has involved much joint working with mental health professionals, managing the complex interactions between language and psychological development with emotional well-being. Areas of clinical interest and particular expertise include Autstic Spectrum Disorders, patients with severe and complex learning difficulties, Paediatric eating and drinking difficulties and cleft lip and palate.
My role, since 1997, as lead Speech and Language Therapist for multidisciplinary diagnostic work for Autistic Spectrum Disorders has afforded me considerable expertise in working with the complexities of these disorders and their impact on children and young people.
Management / Strategic Development
Within my role as team leader I have much experience of clinical leadership, strategy and service development. I am the lead clinician within the Trust-wide Paediatric feeding clinic and, across the Trust, plan and deliver the National Autistic Society EarlyBird and EarlyBird Plus training to parents.
Supervision / Consultation
I provide ongoing clinical supervision for a large team of Speech and Language Therapists and Speech and Language Therapy Assistants. Much of my clinical work involves consultation to professionals of many disciplines about the impact and management of Speech and Language difficulties in children and young people.
Teaching / Training
Throughout my career I have enjoyed sharing my skills and understanding through opportunities for teaching and training. In 2003, I became a licensed course tutor for the National Autistic Society EarlyBird and EarlyBird Plus parent programmes and have delivered over 25 courses. I am now the lead placement educator and coordinator for Speech and Language Therapy students within East Coast Community Healthcare. Throughout the years I have delivered training on different aspects of communication disorders and Autistic Spectrum Disorders to UEA students, General Practitioners, pre-schools and schools.
Continuing Professional Development
Key to my developing role and expertise has been active participation in opportunities for professional development. More recently this has focused on my growing expertise in Autistic Spectrum Disorders. I fulfil the requirements for ongoing Continuing Professional Development with my regulatory body.
