After gaining a First Class Honours degree in Human Psychology at De Montfort University in 2004, I worked as a graduate Research Assistant and Assistant Psychologist in a number of posts covering Learning Disability, Forensic settings, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Adult Mental Health, and Mental Health Rehabilitation. Following the completion of my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire in 2009, I went on to publish several research articles in various peer reviewed journals. I also secured a post in what was then North East Essex Mental Health Partnerships NHS Trust working with Adults and Older Adults, making use of diagnostic measures and techniques for work in a Memory Clinic and in Adult Mental Health. I began further training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) on a post-graduate diploma course based at St Thomas’ Hospital in London, which I qualified from in 2014.
I have worked since 2015 at a Community Pain Management Service based in Bury St. Edmunds, where I set up the psychology pathway and service delivery, making use of CAT to help treat patients attending with chronic pain. Treatment using this pathway has produced some excellent outcomes, even in very brief therapy, the results of were written up for further publication. I has also formed close links with The University of East Anglia during this post and work to assist the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme as an Associate Tutor and Placement Supervisor for trainees. In addition to CAT, I have also undertaken further training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a treatment found particularly helpful when treating trauma, which I use, as needed, alongside CAT to good effect.
I have been working with children and adolescents, alongside my adult work, since 2018. I completed training in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy “The Child’s Inner World” in 2020 and often make use of our animals at home in cases that are appropriate for this. I also make use of CAT and EMDR as needed. I have skills in assessment and treatment for a broad range of mental health difficulties and try of offer a friendly and relaxed environment, either at my home base or remotely, for children and families to feel comfortable to talk.
