Experience

Clinical
I have 18 years experience of Child Psychiatry within the NHS and continue to work as a consultant for the NHS. During my career I have been trained in the assessment and management of a wide range of presenting difficulties in children and young people. These include eating disorders, anxiety and mood disorders including self-harm, the emotional sequelae of complex trauma, obsessional compulsive disorder, psychosis, developmental disorders and mental health difficulties in children with learning disability). In my practice I draw from training and experience of a wide range of therapeutic approaches (systemic family, cognitive behavioural, psychodynamic and medication) and consider biological, psychological and social factors relevant to the young person’s presentation.

Working in a multidisciplinary team, with access to a range of evidence based treatments is important to my approach.

I have a special interest in Eating Disorders and Child Protection.

Management / Strategic Development
I am primarily a clinician but have in all my posts contributed to developing and improving services and given leadership and support to my colleagues in the teams. I am the Named Doctor for Child Protection in Norfolk for the Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust.

Consultation
Consultation provided to a wide range of professionals in children’s services, health, education and charitable organisations.

Teaching/ Training
Training events to GPs, medical students, Educational Psychologists and contributing to multiagency training. Topics include eating disorders, ASD, ADHD, attachment, child abuse and trauma.

Research
Research on outcome and user experience in systemic therapy and involvement in audits promoting service improvement.

Continuing Professional Development / Training
As a member of an active and lively CPD group I draw up a personal development plan every 12 months identifying areas of my practice that need updating or developing further. I attend training events or conferences accordingly. My fitness to practice is regulated and supervised by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and through the revalidation process for medical doctors.
