Dr. Irene Lampert, Consultant Child Psychiatrist

I am a consultant psychiatrist with nineteen years experience in working with children and adolescents and the key people important to their wellbeing.  My training combines medical knowledge with experience in child development, family work, individual therapies and psychodynamic thinking.  Young people experience a wide range of mental health difficulties and I believe that finding a shared way of defining the difficulties is important to the success of any treatment.  In my clinical practice I aim to listen, engage with the young person and their family, share my thoughts and jointly agree on a way forward. I believe that respect for others, clear communication and transparency are fundamental to effective therapeutic relationships.

I worked for many years in the Midlands and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Trust and came to Norfolk six years ago, following my husband taking up a new position.  I continue to work for the NHS as a Consultant in King's Lynn, with a special interest in eating disorders, adolescent psychiatry and learning disability.

I am in the process of establishing myself in independent practise. I expect to be able to offer appointments to patients during early 2015.

Young people benefit from choice and expertise and I am pleased that I will be able to provide this in my private work by being part of a multidisciplinary group of professionals. I find direct clinical work the most interesting and rewarding part of my job.

Outside work I am kept busy by my family and a range of large and small pets. In quieter moments, I enjoy music, singing, films and books.
