Claire Keable (previously Jarvis), Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

I have 16 years' experience in supporting people with a multitude of difficulties and complexities in the voluntary sector and now in the NHS. Soon after leaving school, I undertook both introductory and intermediate training courses in counselling skills. I found these invaluable within my work at Family Action where I became increasingly aware of the need for specialist therapeutic intervention alongside social support. In 2005, I embarked upon my degree in Integrative Counselling, which equipped me to offer a counselling service within Family Action. I provided counselling for children, families and increasingly for parents with depression and anxiety disorders. This led to my interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I found an opportunity within the NHS to complete a post-graduate diploma in CBT and gain extensive experience in using this model. Alongside my work with individuals I am interested in developing and running CBT groups.  Within a group, members can productively support and learn from each other while challenging their negative thoughts and behaviours. I love being a CBT therapist and find my work enriched by my experience of other therapeutic models.

Outside of work I enjoy being a mum to my two daughters of 18 and 1! I love to cook, knit and bury myself in a good book.
